If you’ve never scheduled a home inspection before, you might not know what to expect when the professional arrives. Should you leave them alone to do their job? Are you supposed to talk to them about your questions or concerns? Knowing the answers to these key questions can help you feel more comfortable and confident when the inspector shows up.

What Should Homeowners Do During Home Inspections?

Below, our licensed inspectors will go over some important things you can do during home inspections to ensure that the process goes smoothly.

  • Be present. Although homeowners aren’t required to be present while during home inspections, we highly encourage it. While your inspector does their job, they’ll point out any problem areas or concerns that they notice, which will make understanding the final inspection report much easier.
  • Ask questions. Home inspections are more complex than they may seem. It’s okay, and even encouraged, to ask questions while your inspector works. It’s normal not to know what your inspector is looking for, and you deserve to be informed about the state of your home. We here at Towne & Country Property Inspections encourage all our clients to ask whatever questions they think of during the inspection so that they are included in the process and can better understand their home.
  • Mention your concerns. If you already had concerns about specific areas of your home before your inspector arrives, make sure to bring them up during the inspection. Additional information or worries you have about your property will help your inspector during the inspection. It will also allow your inspector to explain the cause of any damages or problems you’ve noticed, giving you more knowledge and greater peace of mind.
